Thanks for everything, 2024!
This past year brought a new season of the podcast focused on our area’s incredible outdoor scene, new State College-themed merch, new behind-the-scenes stories about life in our small town, and new neighbors to meet. Our team grew and the number of “wish we were locals!” who joined our community did too!
While our wheels are turning for even more ways to help future locals make the move to town with more ease in 2025, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate all of the State College love we shared in 2024.
Here’s what you loved the most last year!
On Instagram?
The nominees for “Favorite Post” were…
– This adorable kindergarten fun run
– This Shingletown appreciation post
– And this Birding Cup celebration
So which post walked away with the Most Popular trophy this year?
This one! (We’ve watched it dozens of times and it still makes us smile every time.)
On the pod?
Season 2 took us into caves, up mountains, and downstream in a 6-episode hiking, biking, kayaking, Ironman-ing, climbing, fishing extravaganza celebrating all things outdoor recreation! (And there is a lot to celebrate around here.) You listened to ”Hiking for Hidden Gems” with Purple Lizard Map Founder Michael Hermann more than any other episode. (With interviews with our Iron Mayor Ezra Nanes and Bridget Whyte’s guide to outdoor adventurefollowing closely behind!)

On the blog?
We have deja vu! For the second year in a row, this locals-approved post about what to do on a rainy day in State College was the most-read of the year!
You also loved meeting a crew of interesting, unique, and inspiring locals in our new series “Getting to Know the Neighbors.” The most-read were interviews with Happy Valley influencer Hannah Morris, community champion Curtis Shulman, and start-up specialist and educator Elizabeth Hay!
And in your closet?
Your love for Shingletown knows no bounds! (We get it.)
This year’s most popular shop item was our new You Down for Shingletown? tee. (Available in three colors!)
This cheerful yellow Townie beanie was a 2024 favorite and our new State Forest hoodies went into more than a few shopping carts, too.
Also new this year? You can now find Rediscover State College merch – for adults and kids – at the newly reopened Makery Market!
From the whole Rediscover State College team, Happy New Year!
We’ve loved sharing State College with you in 2024. And if 2025 finds you making the move to town, we’re here to help. If you have questions or need help plugging into the community, shoot us a note anytime!
P.S. We can’t head out without expressing a huge thank you to the State College Redevelopment Authority, whose financial support has kept this project going strong! We couldn’t do it without you all. Thanks for all you do and we’re looking forward to another great year of partnership in 2025.
Laura Mustio made her way to State College via Pittsburgh in 2015. Her writing celebrates our area’s hidden gems, treasured locals, and not-to-be-missed experiences.
