As soon as I eased my car off of route 322 and onto the gravel road leading into Rothrock State Forest, my body began to shift into calm.
I go on walks regularly with an 82-year-old. Retired for more than 15 years, he hasn’t slowed down a bit. He has served on several boards and committees, taken classes on local history, computer programming, wildflowers, and wetlands, and even helped scan ballots for local elections.
As my wife and I enter the empty-nest stage, we are starting to reminisce about what it was like raising our two children in the State College area.
My family’s favorite part of the Central Pennsylvania Festival for the Arts is the Children and Youth Sidewalk Sale (happening this year July 10).
In the past 12 years I’ve covered a lot of ground in State College. The marathon training helped. Well, that and a couple of virtual marathons in the early-2020s.
While feeling settled in a new place takes some time, our team can act as a “faster pass” to get you situated in town, lowering some of the hurdles that come with relocating.
The soft spot I had for this town that carried over from my college days visiting friends here has transformed into a deep respect for a community that’s getting better all the time.
It’s fun to think about all that’s going to happen later this year as a result of State College’s winter hibernation and the beehive of community energy that’s buzzing under the surface to keep our small town vibrant.
