State College Lately – February 2023

If you’re thinking of making the move to State College, you probably want to stay in the loop about interesting things going on in the area. Here are a few noteworthy things we’ve been talking about lately!

Here’s what’s been going on…

A dance party… for babies?

It’s a thing! Community creative space 3 Dots hosted their first-ever Baby Raveand parents and kids had a blast! VICs (Very Important Crawlers) had their own section, coffee and juice boxes were served, and the party conveniently wrapped before nap time.

Feeling a little bit famous

Like being on a flight with a celebrity, we’re feeling a little “famous by association” and telling all our friends about Altoona-based business Gravyn Traditional Archery. This family business designed the bows that were used in Avatar: The Way of the Water, which hit theaters this winter and has since become one of the most successful movies… ever.

Skate park, incoming!

Despite the many benefits of having a local skate park, Centre County currently has no free public park to practice BMX, skateboarding, scootering, or roller-skating. But a Tony Hawk-supported plan for a new park in State College is sparking lots of enthusiasm from locals throughout the community – including us!

And everyone’s talking about flowers

Christie of beloved local flower farm Rooted Farmstead recently took on the role of Resident Instructor of Botanical Arts at The Makery. She’ll be hosting workshops and summer camps and bringing her Bellefonte-based flower magic to downtown State College.

Oh! And did you catch these?

We published a blog post about State College’s ski town status recently and this pic was our Instagram community’s favorite post in January!
